she’s cyclonic

It’s always interesting to see how different people interpret the same piece of clothing. It’s even more interesting when you see the professionals do it. Here, the Therese Rawsthorne “Cyclonic” dress appears in recent editorials by Russh and Vogue magazines. In the Russh editorial (styled by Natalie Shukur) the look is pared down, with barely an accessory in sight, and the dress is the main focus of the shot. In the Vogue editorial (styled by Victoria Collision) the dress is glitzed up with fanciful shoes and statement necklaces, channeling a look reminiscent of the 80s. Both outfits channel different aesthetics, and while I do genuinely like both ensembles, my favourite has to be the Russh version. I’m ultimately drawn to the simplicity of the outfit, and the dreamy mood (for lack of a better phrase) evoked by the photography.

That's really interesting how differently they showcase the dress. Both are gorgeous, though I tend to prefer the Russh editorial. Maybe it's the simplicity and natural sunlight that makes it look more raw and appealing.

im always amazed at how you could see one item of clothing and think nah i dont like it and then the right person puts it on and bam! it looks like a whole diff thing! i love that….interesting post. interpretation is the key.

Oooo I really like it! I prefer the first version ….the Vogue one is nice enough, but I like the fact it's worn in a far more casual way in the Russh photo!

oh lovely, the simple, romantic element of the dress with the edgy silhouette is all too much. styled fantastically in both shoots, the first takes it though.
