bĂșl AW15

Can you believe that autumn/winter collections are already starting to drop here in Australia? I doubt the temperature in Queensland has even dipped below 25 degrees celsius lately so seeing coats and knits filtering into stores is quite baffling. While piling on the layers might be some while away, I am taking some inspiration from the upcoming seasonal colour palettes. Lots of monochrome, pale hues, and the odd splash of colour seems to the be standard. One collection I can’t seem to get out of my head right now is the AW15 collection by Australian label bĂșl. At first glance it all looks simple enough but it’s the clean lines and relaxed tailoring that really stands out. These are a few of my favourite looks and you can see more of the collection on their website.

Summer Whites

Head-to-toe white outfits can be hazardous. Especially if you’re fond of things like ice cream, coffee, red wine, chocolate, beetroot, and basically food in general. However there’s something so appealing about a light white outfit, especially in the middle of a sticky, sweaty summer. They scream “So fresh! So clean! I swear I’m not sweating bullets right now!” And if you choose garments made from breathable fabrics then you’re onto a winning combination. These are a few lovely looks I’ve spotted recently, all courtesy of some fantastic Australian labels.

Gorman Summer 2014 Collection

As if I wasn’t already excited at the prospect of summer, Gorman had to go ahead and drop their latest Summer 2014 lookbook into my lap/email inbox. Every season Gorman seem to outdo themselves in the print department, and the Summer 2014 collection is no exception. The collection has a distinct seaside flavour with lobster, fishing net, and seagull prints adorning everything from bucket hats to bikinis. Side note: I am ALL OVER that lobster print. Subtler prints take shape in the form of nautical stripes and Batik polka dots, while embroidered palms give the collection a cool tropical twist. With so many summery references jam packed into one collection, you’d be hard pressed not to have fun in the sun with Gorman this summer.

Gorman’s summer collection will be available from October and can be found in Gorman stores in Australia and New Zealand, and online at gormanshop.com.au

Look: Gorman Winter 2014

You can always count on Gorman to give good print. Their Winter 2014 collection, Never Smile at a Crocodile (which is also excellent life advice btw), features the bold graphic prints and pops of colour that we’ve come to expect from the label. Animal references are present in the form of croc and cheetah prints, while a striking cactus print seems to be a natural progression from the fruit and vegetable themed prints of past collections. The palette is more subdued, typical for a winter collection, but that doesn’t mean a lack of colour. Mustard yellows, baby pinks, bright blues and greens sit alongside basic black and navy hues. Whether you’re after statement making prints or seasonal essentials, Gorman has you covered. The collection will be available in-store and online from April 10.

Gorman are also one of the independent designers featured in my pop up shop with The Third Row. Be sure to check it out to see some of my favourite items from a bunch of great independent stores.
