Amazinger Face by Zoe Foster Blake

Amazinger Face

After pre-ordering it sometime back in March, this little beauty arrived on my door step earlier this week. Amazinger Face by Zoe Foster Blake is a revised and updated take on her popular beauty book Amazing Face. For those not acquainted with Zoe, she’s a former glossy mag beauty editor, author, and founder of skincare brand Go-To. When it comes to getting the down low on all things beauty and skincare, she’s pretty much my go-to source (her explainer on the difference between physical and chemical sunscreen is very very insightful). Much like her skincare line, this book features cute graphics galore, conversational copy that doesn’t take itself too seriously and, most importantly, relatable and easy to understand beauty tips for all.

Even though the title of the book alludes to only the facial region, it covers everything from hair to hands and nails. There’s information suited to all ages and skin types, as well as tips for VERY REAL LIFE SITUATIONS like how to fix a bad haircut (we’ve all been there) or how to do your face when you’re hungover (real talk). While I’ve only skimmed through the book so far, I can already tell it’s going to become a one stop shop for all my beauty needs.

What are your go-to beauty books? Any recommendations are, as always, welcome in the comments section.

Read: Grace, Spaces, Letters for Gentlewomen

This is what my current reading list looks like. I picked up Sincerely: Women of Letters and Grace: A Memoir at the Lifeline Bookfest over the weekend. I had been meaning to buy the Grace Coddington memoir for some time but never got around to it. It was just my luck then that one of my friends picked it up and swung it my way – a perfect example of the pros of going shopping in groups. Even better was the fact that it only set me back $5. FIVE DOLLARS. I know right? Also in the mix is The Gentlewoman Issue No. 9 and Spaces Volume Two by Frankie Magazine. What is everyone else reading at the moment? Are there any must-reads that I should add to my list?

holiday reads

Just a few books and magazines that I’ll be reading over the holidays. I started reading The Beautiful and Damned some weeks ago but it’s taken me a while to really get stuck into it. Rookie Yearbook One was an early Christmas present to myself and I picked up Yen for the first time in a year or so thanks to the complimentary mix CD and Grimes cover. What’s currently on your reading list?

a gentlewoman reads…

Eternal Chanel and The Gentlewoman. One a birthday present, the other a present to myself. Both came into my hands before I headed overseas. As a result, I’ve only just gotten around to reading them now. I’m also currently reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I don’t think that would have really fit in with the general feel of this post.

tess of the d’urbervilles

I bought this book for $1 during the post-Christmas sales. It’s taken me this long to get around to reading it. Even then I had to procrastinate and take photos of it instead. I think I’m going to have to collect the rest of the set now too. A whole row of fabric hardcover books – just imagine! Hopefully my luck will repeat itself and I’ll find them all for $1. I don’t like my chances.
