she plays the drums, i’m on tambourine

Sometimes I wish I had learned to play a cooler instrument when I was younger. Like the drums. Or guitar. Something that allows you to play in a (rock) band. A saxophone even (hey, it works for The Zutons). Actually, I can play the saxophone. I just don’t like playing it. Or the clarinet either. They make my cheeks hurt. And you don’t see many rock bands with flutes. Yes, I played the flute. Please keep all the “one time, at band camp” jokes to yourself. Now I’m just too lazy to learn to play a new instrument. Although, if I ever do decide to take up drums (or guitar or bass) at least I’m lucky enough to have a brother who owns a full band setup, so it won’t cost me a dime. OK, maybe just a case of beer. As bribery for letting me use his instruments (when I was a kid I used to sneak into his room to try to play his guitar and he would get very pissed off). But we’re all older and wiser now, and I don’t break things as often as I used to. And if all else fails, I can always just learn to play the tambourine.

haha i play violin, its extremely useless! i learnt for 11 years and it just sits in my closet now.

the funny part is my school actually had a band camp so "this one time at band camp…" was actually a reality. except maybe the context its used in in American pie, ew.x

i used to play clarinet, for about 6years.. & it used to make my cheeks hurt soo much (partly because the first year i learnt it i insisted on puffing out my cheeks when i was playing it, i looked a bit silly). i used to be in the regional wind band, & the uniform included Tartan Trousers..ohh the joys of being Scottish :/ but yeah, i dont play anymore. i wish i'd learnt the cello, or the guitar. or the harmonica, i reeeally wish i could play the harmy. the flutes pretty cool though (i cant play it at all, not even a note). i cant blow over bottles either, urg.

My friend plays the flute in our church choir (I'm cool, I swear!) and the two of us always give out about not being able to play something cool like a guitar …but we're just too lazy to do anything about it!lol!

Actually, I can't play anything, bar a couple of tunes on the piana and about 10 songs on the tin whistle …actually I think I may have lost that tin whistle …whoops!

h & s – haha one of the best parts of being in the band at my school was the camps. One of our 'tours' was around North Queensland and the Whitsundays. It was a whole week up in the tropics with only about half an hour per day of actual music. Bliss!

steph – oh but tartan trousers are tres chic these days 😉 it's ok my school uniform was a tartan skirt and an ugly washed out pale green blouse.

hermia – my friends and I talk about starting a band all the time. That conversation usually follows the one about us wasting all our money on festival tickets and how being in a band would apparently solve all that. And we're usually drunk haha
